Narrative Idea #03- Coin Toss V.2

This is the second version of the coin toss narrative idea.

Story:

The film starts with the protagonist as a child. He is sitting at the kitchen table, his mother is asking him what he wants for dinner. He can not decide, so his mother flips a coin to make the decision for him. We see that the child takes relief in this.

The next scene will jump to a new actor to show he has aged. In this scene he will be about 19/20 years old. The scene will start with him waking up. We see a mon tage of him going through his day, he makes every single decision by the toss of a coin. Every decision he makes, the decision gets more significant.

Some examples:

  • Tea or coffee.
  • Bus or train.
  • Snickers or mars bar.
  • Go out with friends or not.
  • Go on a date or not.
  • Accept a job offer or not.

After this montage, the protagonist leaves work and see’s somebody being mugged. He flips a coin to choose whether or not he should help them. But after the coin result, the protagonist walks away.

When the protagonist gets home he hears on the radio/social media about the assault he witnessed. The victim was stabbed on the scene.

The protagonist freaks out and heads to bed.

He wakes up in a world loosely based on dream-logic. He is awake and relives the same day we have just watched. Except in this reality, he makes all his decisions in the opposite order to what he did previously.

As he goes against the coin, his reality gets more intense and distorted. And when he gets the the assault, he drops the coin and walks towards the victim to help.

Why am I not doing the idea?:

  • It is too long.
  • I wont be able to deliver the films message within 10 minutes.
  • It is not relatable for the audience.
  • The second part of the narrative does not make much sense.
