In response to my initial pitch feedback, I tried to think of a narrative with a much simpler structure.
This idea is a lot more simpler than my last one. It will be less experimental than planned, but a lot easier to execute and evaluate.
Character:
- Functioning member of society.
- Introvert.
- Academic.
- A bit of a nerd.
Story:
The film starts off, with the protagonist sitting at his computer in a dark room, researching probability. After some researching, he looks at some coins on his desk, and picks one up.
The next scene will be a montage of him using this coin to make everyday decisions for him. For example, at a vending machine he lets the coin choose what chocolate bar he gets.
During the montage, he lets the coin decide decisions that are slightly more significant each time. For example, he lets the coin decide whether or not he goes on a date with a girl he met online.
The final sequence of the film will be the protagonist leaving work and he see’s somebody getting beat up or mugged. And the last shot will be the protagonist noticing this, then tilt down to show him tossing the coin. Leaving the film on a cliffhanger.
Why might I not use this idea?:
- All of my research up to this point has been on experimental filmmaking. I feel like doing this idea will restrict the techniques I would like to use because it wont be suited to the tone.
