Here is the first ever idea for a narrative I thought of for my FMP.
Character:
- Under-class citizen.
- Criminal.
- Heroin dealer.
- Desparate.
- Male.
- Age 18-25.
- Morally troubled.
Story:
I haven’t got a full story, just an idea for a story.
The film starts off in an abandoned/ run down home. The protagonist wakes up from passing out after doing heroin and notices that a girl beside him is dead. After this realisation he starts freaking out and goes into a psychotic breakdown. At this point the film narration will leave the real world and the audience will be placed inside the protagonists mind. To represent the emotions the protagonist are feeling, I will present these emotions using metaphorical imagery and immersive sound design, this will be the montage segment of the film. In this segment, the character will be questioning his morality and whether what he has done is wrong. I will gradually reveal the protagonists relationship and the fact that he sold the drugs that the girl gave her through quick flashbacks.
I did not come up with ideas for where the story would go after this montage and what would happen to the character. But I have decided to not go with this idea for a number of reasons.
Why am I not using this idea?:
- After my initial pitch feedback, it come to light that doing an idea that includes death or drug abuse, is too much of a heavy topic. My tutors told me that if you bring death int the situation, if you don’t pull it off properly, it sometimes comes off as “cartoonish” and inauthentic.
- After feedback from my support tutor, he told me that what I was planning. to do, was too much to present efficiently and effectively in such a short time frame.
